The Texter
Some people love to cycle. Others love to use their mobile phone for texting, tweeting or facebooking. Of course, there is also that breed of the texting cyclists, those who love to do both at the same time.
I captured this moment on 20 June 2012 in Grand Canal Dock, just before the Lunchtime Bike Ride, the highlight of Dublin's Bike Week. I'm pretty sure that by now this guy has no idea what was he checking or updating.

The Golden Cyclist
"Be safe, be seen"...
Some cyclists take this motto very seriously (see for instance "The Cycling Disco"), though not necessarily in the way the author originally intended to.
For example, wearing a glittering golden jacket whilst keeping your helmet on the handlebar might not be the safest cycling practice.
This picture was taken in Nassau Street, off Trinity College, on 20 June 2012 during the Lunchtime Bike Ride as part of Dublin's Bike Week.

The Blue Sandalist
In the scarce warm days Dublin enjoys, nothing is more refreshing than wearing sandals. It doesn't mean one has to give up cycling...
I took this picture on 20 June 2012 in Grand Canal Dock, shortly before the Lunchtime Bike Ride, the highlight of Dublin's Bike Week.

The Onlooker
Cyclists should always look forward, unless they plan to turn or overtake, when a short glimpse to the side is advisable. However, sometimes when the sunshine is directly in your face, looking straight may require an extra hand. It gets tricky when the other hand holds a long stick.
Needless to say that the cyclist in pink trousers at the background looks awesome too. :)

The Waiters
Everyone in Dublin loves warm and sunny days like the one we've got today. Cyclists are not different and they cycle to work or wherever en masse. Sometime it means they need to wait for a little while.
I took the picture on a lovely morning on 11 May 2012 in Grove Road, by the Grand Canal.

The Shopper
Bicycles are great. Not only can they take people from A to B, they can also carry their belongings at the same time. It's much easier to carry stuff when you've got a fashionable basket. Having said that, I wouldn't leave a loaf of bread exposed in the open air, as the gentleman above did.
I took this photo on 16 May 2012 in Grafton Street, by the statue of Molly Malone.
A moment later, he also started to play on a musical instrument with a group of buskers (not pictured, but you can see them here).

The Signholder
When on the saddle, cyclists have two options. They can either keep their feet on the pedals while cycling or put one foot (or possibly two feet) on the ground when they stop. The guy in orange simply enjoys both.
I took this photo on 24 April 2012 near Grand Canal Street.

The Tight-Arse
Please don't get me wrong, I appreciate the value of a good cycling gear. In the Tour de France, it can make the difference between the winner and a loser. But if you just commute for a short distance in a miniature town like Dublin, it really is just to show off. A pair of jeans would do the same work. Cycling should feel comfortable, however, if some men need their bike as an excuse for wearing tights, so be it. ;-)
I took this picture at Patrick Street, somewhere between Christ Church and St Patrick Cathedrals, on 30 March 2011.
* Not to confuse with the tightrope cyclist.

The Early Bird
There are quite a few benefits for the cyclists who leave home early. There are no traffic congestions, which slow you down (luckily, not as badly as they slow down cars), you can manage to do more things etc. But above all, the biggest advantage of all is the ability to see the most beautiful sky. Ireland, constantly cloudy, has the most beautiful sunrise and sunset in the world!
I took this picture on 27 September 2011 in Harold's Cross Bridge. In fairness, it wasn't that early as the photo was shot at 7:31 am.

The Hands-In-Pockets Dude
There are those cool guys that the world is just amazed by how cool they look and behave (or so they think). They try to maintain their apathetic appearance so hard. Luckily, one day most of them grow up and realise that the world is apathetic while they are the ones who really need the attention of the rest of society... :)
Oops, I think I've got carried away with the criticism of adolescence. After all, that's the way teenagers cope with the huge pressure on them in a critical period of their life.
I came across this cool dude on 9 May 2012 in Mespil Road by the Grand Canal. I was quite impressed how he managed to cycle without touching the handlebar for so long.
Well done lad!
