Oh, and unlike this skateboarder, he's actually a cyclist, not a pretender. :)

The Note Taker

Taking a note

As I was walking around Stephen's Green, I noticed a cyclist sitting on the top tube of the frame of his bike. I came closer and realised he's taking a note in his notebook. I'm not sure what it was for, though it seemed work-related.

Once again, it's neither about the cyclist nor Dublin, but about the place. This time it's a Londoner who happened to cycle in an interesting spot. Which bridge symbolises London most? Nope, it's not London Bridge (is falling down falling down), an ugly twentieth century construction with a misleading glorious name. It's the Tower Bridge, London's most famous bridge and one of the city's most recognisable landmarks.

The picture was taken on 4 December 2012, a sunny day (very windy though) in London.

The more cyclists are out there, the greater the threat of bicycle theft. And, fortunately, Dublin sees more and more bikes. Therefore, cyclists take things to hand or at least they take a lock in their hand.

Remember the hands-in-pockets-dude? So keeping hands in pockets isn't the only way for handsfree cycling. For instance, you can play with stuff (it isn't clear what it actually was though).

A bag for every wheel

Usually one bag is more than enough, but kids sometimes need to carry two bags, one for school and another one for football, GAA etc on the top of it (yet another successful year for The Royal Society of Putting Things On Top of Other Things?). The result is quite amusing, as one can notice from the photo.

I saw these two young lads in Rathfarnham on 6 September 2012.

Ardara Cyclists

Irish Cyclists in Co. Donegal

Cycling events are a great fun. Cycling competitions are fun too, with a lot more adrenaline. One Irish competition I happened to watch was Rás Dhun na nGall or Donegal Race in English, a three day cycling event in Donegal.

The photos above, and below were taken on the 3rd of June 2012, the last day of Rás Dhun na nGall, in the beautiful town of Ardara.

Dublin Marathon observers

So Dublin Marathon is over by now (the photos are awesome). Congratulations to Geoffrey Ndungu and Magdalene Mukunza for their victory!

Marathons are for people who like to run, not for cyclists who use different muscles. For the cyclists who like to combine cycling with running (and swimming) they invented the triathlon. Nevertheless, when the marathon participants run, Dublin's Cyclists pay respect and cheer the runners on.

These cyclists were observing the marathon on Miltown road. This was the marathon of yesteryear, the 32nd Dublin Marathon, which took place on 31 October 2011.

The Dog Walker

Some people love dogs and walk them out. Others enjoy cycling in the open air. However, some like to combine both activities at the same time. I understand that some lads find walking more difficult and tiring than cycling, but it seem a bit unfair to let the dog run so quickly for a long distance. It would be kinder to carry the dog in the basket...

I took this picture on 22 May 2012 in Rathfarnham Road, Terenure. As the guy was on the move, it was hard to position him in the middle of the photograph.

It is pretty hard to imagine life without a mobile phone nowadays. For some cyclists, it is also impossible to imagine sitting on the saddle without making a call.

 For many cyclist, cycling is a mean to get from point A to point B. For others, getting there is half the fun and they enjoy forming a flock while migrating around.
