The Abreasters

Dublin Bikes is a great bike hire scheme, which probably helps to put more Dubliners on bicycle than any other single plan. People tend to perceive these cyclists as individuals who rent a bike in order to get from A to B as quickly as possible.

These two gentlemen, however, proved that it doesn't have to be this way. Dublin Bike riders can even enjoy cycling abreast (it's illegal to do so on the roadways though).

I took the photo on 27 April 2012 off Dublin City Hall.

  1. It's not illegal to cycle two abreast. It is illegal to cycle on the footpath.

    1. Thanks for the comment Daragh. However, what do you understand from the following paragraph, mentioned in the link provided re:New traffic regulations affecting cyclists?

      47. (1) A pedal cyclist shall not drive a pedal cycle on a roadway in such a manner as to result in more than 2 pedal cyclists driving abreast, save when overtaking other pedal cyclists, and then only if to do so will not endanger, inconvenience or obstruct other traffic or pedestrians.

Does "more than 2" mean it's against the law only when 3 cyclists are cycling abreast?
